3 Countries in a day

Another good bakery breakfast in town before we packed our bags and walked up to the station.  It was fairly quiet but a few joined us for the 1006 express train to Copenhagen.

As we waited various complicated announcements were made and it became clear that there could be a delay ( what again German Rail!). Our fellow passengers became a bit more agitated and apparently the announcer was suggesting we considered another route because the train was not only late but also full.  at a pinch we could have caught the same train in the afternoon but we decided to chance our arm.

the train arrived about 30 minutes late and the benefit of having bought a first class rail pass was clear as we stepped into a half empty carriage.  The trip north was at a moderate pace and we were close to the shoreline at times.

Just after Olderburg I was standing waiting to go to the loo and missed the 3rd Scandi-drama of the trip.  Bill reports that 3 men who had boarded the train came into the carriage, flashed an official card and pounced on a passenger insisting he open his briefcase to be examined.  They then made his wife get her bag off the rack and they went through it too.  Meantime whoever was in the loo was there for a very long time...... Another mystery as no-one was bundled off the train this time so far as we know, but a surprise nonetheless.

We arrived at Puttgarden for our transfer to a Scandiline Ship.  The train rolled along the gangplank and came to a halt on the car deck.  We had barely got up the stairs to the viewing deck before the ship sailed.  Clearly they had waited for us.  This busy shipping lane had ships of all types going north and South or East and west.

Once we arrived in Denmark we got back on the train and off it rolled onto the Danish rails.

We had an easy journey to Copenhagen and since trains go to Malmo every 20 minutes were soon on our way to Sweden.

Crossing the Oresund Bridge allowed us to identify the exact point where the first "Killing" had taken place as the bridge has the national colours painted at the border.

The sun was shining so once we'd dropped our bags at the hotel we strolled into town.  This evening we'll be having a picnic in the room while we watch the World Cup Final.  We found a nice deli just behind the hotel so we've some tasty treats.
