Beer and Drug Opera

Eurostar trip was relatively uneventful.  Smoked salmon and strawberries picnic worked very well.  Only question...  which one of us used the loo at the greatest depth under the channel?   Apparently max depth is considerable so it is probably a record for us both

Arriving at Midi Station was entertaining as try as we might we could not find the #3 tramline.  After consulting a helpful man in information he suggested we caught another train.  Have to say station staff couldn't have been more helpful.  So one stop down the line we found Central Station from where the hotel is "just a short walk" - but in which direction?

Nice man with shaggy dog set us off in the right direction then a second guy walked us most of the way there.  Belgians currently scoring 10/10 for politeness and helpfulness.

Hotel found we headed out to find a drink and dinner.  we ran the gamut of the tourist traps near the Grand Place, almost went for "Sudden death" but ended up at Drug Opera, a very old fashioned restaurant with cold beer and simple satisfying food.

Now back at the hotel and writing down directions so we get to the station safely tomorrow for the next leg of our adventure, crossing from Belgium into Germany.

Did we find Salamander's Jonkhere Bank?  No but we found a character who might just have walked off the set, maybe a banker from Jonkhere who appeared briefly behind the bar at the restaurant.

salut!
